Just buy it…

Fantastic addition to my machine. As a brand new CNC owner, I had no idea it would save so much time and effort! A little learning curve, but once you get it, full steam ahead!

Tool setter

The tool setter was easy to set up on the masso controller. I like it for the fact if the tool goes past the first the contact and continues down there is a safety switch that stops the tool from going deeper and damaging the tool setter.

Tool Setter

I picked the metalworking tool setter up with my conversion kit. Once dialed in works great!

Very accurate not quite straight.

I wanted to use this to set my z axis offset. It was very repeatable, down to the accuracy of my machine ~.0002 inches. Unfortunately the surface wasn't parallel with the base. It was out a few thousands. There are 4 adjustment screws in the base to help compensate, but those really wouldn't work for my application. I wound up 3d printing another base, screwed it onto the tool setters base and used the adjustment screws to get the surface parallel to the new base. It came out off by ~.0004 inches from edge to edge. I think if I had an aluminum base instead of 3d printing one I could have done a little better. All in all with a little work I have an incredibly accurate tool for a budget tool price.

Tool Setter

I ordered the PWN CNC Tool Setter to replace a lower profile tool setter I already had. Now that I'm running the ATC system I don't mind having such a tall protrusion sitting right in line with the tool trays.

As a bonus they were out of stock on the woodworker version and an added benifit of the metal working is the air blast function to clear debris from the top of the tool setter. This works well with the ATC system even though it's unlikely to get enough dust on it to be an issue!
